response to intervention  (rti)

The North Smithfield Public Schools offers support services for struggling students through the Response to Intervention (RTI) process for academic and/or behavioral interventions.

Students suspected of having either a Specific Learning Disability and/or Other Health Impairment may go through the Response to Intervention (RTI) process before an eligibility is determined as part of the district's efforts to address any over-identification in these two special education disability categories.

For students referred for special education services, this process will be employed by the district prior to any determination for a Specific Learning Disability or determination as Other Health Impaired.

Any student experiencing Academic and/or Social/Emotional/Behavioral difficulties may be referred to the Response To Intervention (RTI) Team.
