​Safety is a shared responsibility, and your voice matters. We are inviting staff to submit ideas for:
  • Safety improvement goals
  • Injury prevention initiatives
  • Training topics
  • Building-specific safety concerns
  • District-wide safety awareness campaigns
Please note: This form is intended specifically for suggestions and ideas related to worker and workplace safety, including injury prevention, training topics, and long-term initiatives. Do not use this form for matters associated with facilities work orders or maintenance requests, immediate safety hazards requiring immediate attention, or active threat/emergency situations.

All submissions will be reviewed by the Safety Committee to aid in developing priorities and new goals.
The North Smithfield Public Schools (NSPS) maintains an active Safety Committee in partnership with The Trust. The purpose of the Safety Committee is to proactively promote a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all staff and students

What is the Safety Committee?
The Safety Committee:
  • Reviews workplace incidents and injury trends
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce risk and improve safety practices
  • Develops safety goals and initiatives for the district
  • Ensures compliance with workplace safety standards
  • Collaborates with administration and staff to strengthen safety awareness
Our goal is simple: prevent injuries, reduce risk, and create a culture of safety across all schools and departments.

Who is on the Safety Committee?
The committee includes representatives from district/town leadership, various departments and buildings, and the RI Interlocal Risk Management Trust:
  • Erin Valcourt, Chairman
  • Michael St. Jean, Superintendent
  • Alan Sepe, Facilities Manager
  • Christine Welch, PPS Director
  • Kerri Dailey, Finance/HR Specialist
  • Diane Fontaine, Business Office Admin
  • Angela Olson, Instructional Assistant

Recent Accomplishments and Initiatives
  • Since August of 2024 the Safety Committee has reached all 3 quarterly goals earning the district $500 per quarter to fund and implement additional safety equipment and training.
  • In 2024/2025 we were awarded 2 grants that allowed us to purchase additional walkie-talkies and a lift for the facilities department.
  • In 2025/2026 we were awarded a grant to recoup some of the expenses from re-keying all the doors throughout the district.

Through our partnership with The Trust, the Safety Committee has:
  • Identified trends to help reduce Workers Compensation claims.
  • Implemented safety awareness initiatives and training.
  • Developed quarterly safety goals aligned with district needs.

This work not only protects our employees - it also helps ensure we remain responsible stewards of district resources.
