District Wellness Advisory council
The North Smithfield School District has supported a Wellness Action Plan, Mission and Initiatives since October 2003 and has been a member in good standing of the Rhode Island Healthy Schools Coalition since November 2003. The District Wellness Advisory Council was established in March 2004. Our Council is comprised of educators, parents, administrators, school nurses, community leaders, food service leaders and students.
Our Council Mission is to advise and support the North Smithfield School District in providing a healthy learning environment where students and staff participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices by promoting sound nutrition and regular physical activity to optimize student achievement.
Our Council works hand-in-hand with our District food service provider, Chartwells K-12 Dining Services, to provide balanced, nutrient-rich meals for our students and staff. Our equal focus is to promote opportunities in the educational process for regular physical activity.
Our District DARE Program also supports students through education on a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. To read an inspiring message from one our most recent DARE graduates, click on the "Dare Essay" document below.
Information on our District Wellness Policy and Food Safety is provided below.
