10 Reasons To Be Excited....

  1. Fresh Starts: It is a new school year with new grade levels at NSES and NSMS and new students  transitioning to NSHS. While for many students (and not a few parents!) these moments before school starts is an anxious time, it is also a time full of excitement and possibilities.
  2. Keeping Our Promises: Halliwell has been decommissioned and we have completed, on time and on budget, the new classroom addition at NSES. At NSHS, the new Science Labs are under construction and will be followed by locker room renovations. Moreover, the District and Town will receive up to 40% reimbursement from the State for these projects.
  3. NSES Refresh: NSES has a new addition, new colors, a new 4th grade, and a principal and assistant principal dedicated to a single school. The New NSES is about new teachers, new students, new ideas, and new excitement.
  4. Curriculum Refresh: Based on RIDE’s High Quality Curriculum Standards, we are refreshing our curriculum beginning with rolling out the ReadyGen English Language Art series for grades 1-4. High Quality Standards and Materials + Excellent Instruction = Wicked Smart Kids.
  5. More Learning Opportunities: Our faculty and staff represent a tremendous amount of experience and talent and are the core of our success. With the new unified HS/MS schedule, we can better share our talents between schools while we invite a steady stream of experts from the community, from business and trades, from academia and government, to work with our teachers and offer even more to our students.
  6. Safe Schools: This year North Smithfield Public Schools and all staff will be fully ALiCE certified (https://www.alicetraining.com/). We have added a grant-funded Substance Abuse Counselor at NSHS and are strengthening our partnership with the Blackstone Valley Prevention Coalition.
  7. Renovations: Our facilities and technology departments have been hard at work transforming our buildings and grounds into places all students, staff, and the entire community should be very proud of. A decade of deferred maintenance has been very clearly reversed and our hallways and classrooms are being transformed with new paint, ceilings, high efficiency lighting, whiteboards, display panels, and more!
  8.  Better Communication: We are implementing our new Communications Plan. On the surface, you will notice that North Smithfield Public Schools will have a new look and feel. You will see a more consistent communication between our schools and home. Behind the scenes, we have begun communication and customer service trainings for our staff and will be streamlining our services, systems, and applications.
  9. Goals: Our new District Strategic Plan outlines a series of academic, social/emotional, professional development, community, and operational goals towards which North Smithfield Public Schools will strive. It directs what we need to do and how we will assess our effectiveness, all to ensure student growth and achievement.
  10. Our Community: From our teachers and staff and administrators, to our school committee and families, our town officials and town council, and our supporting organizations and volunteers, North Smithfield has a dedicated community of people all working and wanting the best for our students. This is something we acknowledge every day directly in our title “North Smithfield Public Schools: A community dedicated to excellence.”
